GIMP
Program Used
At Manheim Township Middle School, I had the amazing opportunity to teach 8th graders a professional program called GIMP. I used this program to implement my Unit for Student Teaching. I focused on what a logo was and what a logo represented, the engineering and design process, and reviewed PARC (Proximity, Alignment, Repetition and Contrast) from earlier in their quarter. What I loved about this project is it allowed the students to take an idea, design it and be able to leave with a physical product once the unit was completed. As a result of their designs, the students printed their designs onto shirts, they were able to wear!
A Student's Project- Beginning to End
Design Log, Rubric, Final Design
I color-coded the rubric, to assist the students in the different sections
Yellow: Tools they had to use
Green: How they used the tool (what image)
Purple: Design Layout
Blue: Repetition of Tools/steps, they rewrote the tools/steps once they completed it.
Example: My Design
This was my Final Design that I had and exampled for the class, on the right was my original design that is reversed ready for printing onto a t-shirt. On the left is the 2nd final design, updated by a request of my students. We got to step 4: Improve and one of my students asked why there wasn't a bow on my design, because I wore a bow almost everyday, so I added one into my design. Every image on their design had to represent them, and they had to have at least 8 images, and 1 text.
