My Start with the HH Robotics Team/What is FRC
I started with the Hatboro-Horsham Robotics Team my freshman year
of high school, February 2011. Our Robotics Team was part of the FIRST
(For Inspiration and Recognition o f Science and Technology) Robotics
Competition (FRC) Team 708: Hardwired Fusion, our team later
re-branded to Hatters Robotics the year after I graduated. We met 4 or 5 days a week, for 6 weeks to design, build and program a 120 lbs. robot. We then had competed against other teams from around the area in competitions. While I was on the team, I focused on fabrication, awards and alliance selection. While on the team, our middle school started three FIRST Lego League (FLL) Teams, that I mentored my sophomore through senior year. Starting my sophomore year, our team hosted one of the district competitions, so every year since 2016, I've assisted with set up and tear down of the field.
After Graduating high school, I came back as a college/part time mentor for the high school team. I worked with the students who were doing the awards and presentations, but this past season, winter 2019, I worked with the students in their designs to make sure they were drawing their thoughts so team members could see their thought processes. I also worked with the younger students in assisting them using machine tool like the band saw for the first time. I taught them techniques and made sure they were safe while working. My freshman year of college I started as the Master of Ceremonies for the competitions Hatboro-Horsham hosted. I was able to interact with a lot of students as I saw and learned about their take on that year's game.
While volunteering at World's my freshman year of college, my friend and I gave a presentation to coaches, mentors and students in FIRST about how to apply to colleges, how to include FIRST on their resume and apply to FIRST scholarships.
